Nemura “Mu” Pencyla joined Reimer, Dobrovolny & LaBardi P.C. as a Partner in 2022. Nemura is a highly respected and accomplished lawyer who focuses on complex civil litigation in both Federal and State courts in the areas of employment, civil rights, commercial and business litigation, financial sector arbitration, and all phases of administrative law, including hearings, review, and appeal. Throughout his career, Nemura has built a reputation as an elite trial lawyer and a careful and discrete problem solver, valuable advocate and trusted advisor to his individual, municipal, and business clients.
Nemura has worked in both the public and private legal sectors for almost 30 years, honing his litigation skills first as a well-respected, honored, and highly sought-after counselor and litigator. While serving the People of the State of Illinois as a prosecutor, Nemura personally led and as well as oversaw successful investigations and prosecutions in the areas of financial crimes, public corruption, violent crimes, large-scale drug trafficking, homicide, and civil matters in the areas of labor and employment, civil rights, and litigation in both state and federal courts. He also coordinated and conducted extensive Grand Jury investigations into sophisticated financial and public integrity offenses, as well as spearheading the investigation and prosecution of several dozen cold-case homicides in conjunction with federal authorities and agencies. Nemura served most recently as the First Assistant State’s Attorney in Kendall County until 2017. In private practice since 2017, Nemura has successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in Section 1983 litigation, claimants in FINRA arbitration, both employers and employees in employment litigation, as well as businesses in contract and commercial disputes. Nemura has been appointed by both Federal and State courts to serve as an Independent Special Prosecutor. Nemura was recently appointed Special State’s Attorney for Cook County to prosecute multiple pending and post-conviction homicide cases. Nemura has had many successes and has been recognized by law enforcement agencies, public service organizations, and his peers and supervisors as a dedicated prosecutor, outstanding lawyer, and highly recommended judicial candidate. He was appointed in 2018 to serve on the Illinois State Bar Association’s Federal Civil Trial Committee, as well the Employment Benefits Section Council in 2021.
